Actuarial Scholarships

The G L Melville Actuarial Scholarship
The Laurie Schalchlin Memorial Actuarial Scholarship

We acknowledge the generous benefactor who has provided the G L Melville actuarial scholarship. The Department of Actuarial Studies also offers a scholarship in memory of Laurie Schalchlin, who was a long-term employee of the department.

Background

These scholarships will be tenable for one year. Students who have held the scholarships previously may re-apply.

The scholarships have a value of $2,500.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must be permanent residents of Australia
  • Applicants must be enrolled full time in or intending to enrol in a course at Macquarie University leading to the award of a bachelor degree with a major in Actuarial Studies.
  • Applicants may not hold any other scholarship or award concurrently with either scholarship, other than the Youth Allowance, except with the permission of the donor. Intending applicants who already hold another scholarship or award may still apply, and should specify all details of the scholarship or award held in their application.

Award of the Scholarships

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic merit, financial need and personal circumstances of the applicant. No award will be made in any year in which it is considered there is no eligible applicant of sufficient merit.

NOTE: The successful applicants must notify the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics immediately or as soon as practicable of any change in their circumstances as they relate to the eligibility criteria

Selection Process

The scholarships are awarded by the University on the recommendation of a Committee comprising the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, the Head of the Department Actuarial Studies and a nominee from the Faculty of Business and Economics.

Applications for the scholarships, with any supporting material, must be submitted by Friday 23 January 2009.

Provide information about yourself to illustrate why the Selection Committee should choose you for the Scholarship.
