NEW Macquarie HSC Bonus Points: Academic Advantage

Academic Advantage is Macquarie University's brand new HSC Bonus Points Scheme. It will give bonus UAI points to school leavers applying to selected Macquarie degree programs in 2009. The purpose is to recognise achievement in HSC subjects that specifically relate to Macquarie University degrees. Evidence suggests that students who do well in particular HSC subjects also do well in related university degree.

Who is eligible?

Academic Advantage is available to all prospective students who have completed either the HSC or the International Baccalaureate in the year prior to enrolment.

If you're a 2008 Australian high school applicant you may be eligible for Academic Advantage. Students who excel in these HSC subjects will automatically be awarded up to five bonus UAI points if they have chosen Macquarie University amongst their UAC preferences.

How will it work?

The scheme has identified the HSC subjects that relate specifically to certain Macquarie degrees. Based on a student’s performance in these subjects he / she may receive up to three bonus points for each one, with a total maximum of five points available.

Once you choose Macquarie University amongst your preferences, your bonus points will be automatically calculated when you submit your university preferences to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC).

What degree programs are included?

Academic Advantage applies to all Macquarie University degree programs EXCEPT:

  • All combined Law programs
  • All Actuarial Studies programs (including combined degree programs)
  • Bachelor of Ancient History (Honours)
  • Bachelor of International Studies

Summary

  1. The maximum number of UAI Bonus Points you can receive for each Macquarie University degree preference is 5;

  2. Students could receive a maximum of nine bonus UAI points if Academic Advantage is combined with other access schemes such as uniTEST or the Lighthouse Scheme. (One exception is Psychology, for which a maximum of six points will apply);

  3. Students must have a minimum UAI of 70 for the bonus scheme to apply;

  4. You don’t apply for UAI Bonus Points, they are automatically calculated.
